Laura's Pearls of Wisdom

Today was Laura's first day of school. I woke up early wih her, to keep her company as she ate her breakfast. She was antsy, and I asked if she was excited or nervous. Her words said no, but her body language said otherwise. She fidgeted a while longer and then blurted out, “I hate the first day of school. Because now you have to June, and there's just no way out of it.”

Laura, honey, when you get out into the real world there's no such thing as 'waiting' to June. Enjoy it while you can.

  • how sweet the first day of school days used to be..to me at least..when the kids head off to school but it never failed, first day of school every year i would get a call from the nurse’s office saying that my two sons were too sick to stay at school...it was always their rag weed allergy acting up on them..poor boys, they are in their 20's now and they still suffer from rag weed allergy . i always remind them of the first day of school and we share a laugh about it.
this will all be nice memories for the kids when they grow older but right now they are still kids and just do not know any better..they might as well try their best to enjoy it.

  • LOL
You had to tell her about the June thing didn't you.
Mine walked through the fornt door the first day ever and was following me out as I walked away.
After convicing her that we would not move while she was at school everything was fine.

  • My middle son in grade 12. His forst day back and was in trouble already!!!
There werent any classes. Just sitting in home room reviewing the rules with the freshmen grade eights. Since he has heard it all before , he just left! And hour early. Apparently he missed the rule which states "Thou shalt not leave thine class untill thee dismisal bell hath rungeth"

  • Laur's bubble refuses to burst. She thinks that with June and summer comes an end to all things aggravating and a start of all things new and fun and exciting. I won't ever be able to convince her otherwise. Her teenage brain isn't wired that way.
Summer - your poor boys! Allergies are not fun!
Walker - LOL, I never went to preschool myself, but I thought I was going to have to attend preschool with Lizzie when she went, seemed like the only way she'd let go of me
oopseedaisee - he sounds like a creative thinker to me. LOL
ablondeblogger - but I'm trying not to burst her bubble
Lizze - she' better go to class, just like you are, right?

  • It's too bad we can't take summer sabbaticals from work! Sigh...

  • Good point. Savour the 'til June for as long as you can! Or, you know, grow up to be a teacher ;)

Or maybe that's the job for those of us who were asking "When does school start?" the second week of July.

So, how'd it go once she got there?
